Give Your Team Extra Special Treatment

[30] “The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. [31] Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” – Mark 6:30-31 (NIV)

One of the most profound things people look for when they belong to a team is love and a sense of direction from the leader. Once that is missing, the team members won’t feel happy they belong, even though they may feel trapped in the organisation. Jesus knew this, so He always emphasised treating His disciples differently from the crowd. For instance, He spoke to the crowd in parables several times but explained the parables to the disciples. Think about that.

One time, Jesus sent the disciples to preach the gospel in several towns. It was a long ministerial trip. But when they came, Jesus received them and heard their reports. It was such a glorious experience for Jesus to see His disciples get a hands-on mission field experience. But crowds were coming and going, so much so that they (Jesus and the disciples) didn’t have a chance to eat. Jesus told them to move with Him to a quiet place and get some rest. Although that was later done (because He fed the crowds), I believe the disciples experienced some depth of love from their Master, which was good.

Let me tell you something, dear leader. Each individual in your team is valuable. Once you don’t treat each person well and offence grows without punishment, the team members won’t feel okay, and some will leave. Many people hate their jobs today, not because of the job but because genuine love is missing in various workplaces. Give your team extra special treatment whenever you get the opportunity. Don’t be a dominative leader or employer; be generous, and people will love to be with you.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me treat anybody you bring to my life to help with whatever You have pioneered in my life well, regardless of the circumstances. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
