"If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them." - John 13:17 NKJV
It’s a privilege to know some truth morsels from the Bible. But we seldom practise all of them. There are two dominant reasons why this keeps happening: either we become less conscious of Truth or completely forget the Word heard.
God knows we retain a small percentage of what we hear, but we develop consciousness of what we constantly practice. That is why He’s after people practising the Word instead of just listening to it.
Long before James 1:22 (the famous scripture that instructs believers to practice the Word) was written, Jesus showed His disciples how that scripture works. One time, Jesus took an unusual time to wash the feet of all His twelve disciples. When He finished, He told them to do what He had shown them unto others (John 13:14).
Could it be that you don’t do what you know (or have been taught) from the Bible because nobody has set an example for you to see? Well, it happens. But as a Christian, you should always bear in mind that Jesus is the standard, not any man. So if your Christian leader doesn’t practice what the Bible teaches, do what you know from your understanding of God’s Word. Other people will be glad to follow in your footsteps when you set an example for them.
According to Jesus, you’ll be blessed if you obey His teaching, not if you hear it. Study to practise God’s Word for yourself.
You’re a blessing.
