“[8] Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered” — Hebrews 5:8 NIV
How does it feel to be an owner of a house yet treated like a houseboy for thirty years? It would be an everyday frustrating experience. Isn’t it? That was how people treated Jesus.
Jesus, the One in whom all things were created (Colossians 1:16), was in the world. Yet the inhabitants of this world didn’t know Him (John 1:10). He came to the native Israelites, God’s chosen remnant (as of then), yet they didn’t receive Him (John 1:11). They treated Him like a commoner, so much so that they saw him as a mere carpenter’s son. Nevertheless, through all this pain, Jesus never forgot who He was and why He came to the world.
Hebrews 5:8 puts His ordeal in an awesome context. It says that through Jesus was a Son (with a capital “S”), He learned obedience from what He suffered. I could imagine Jesus helping his earthly dad, Joseph, to make coffins for people He can raise by God’s power. All these sufferings humbled Jesus to the extent that when His time was about to begin, Mary had to put Him in a tight position to perform His first miracle at a wedding they went to together.
Can I inspire you today, man of vision? Because no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor has it entered into the heart of any man, the great things God has empowered you to accomplish, people will despise you before your time of full manifestation. Be prepared for people to treat you like a commoner, ordering your life about as if you are their slave. But deep within you, don’t give up on what God has said about your life.
It’s for your protection that you live a normal life prior to God’s unending season of exaltation. Why? Because trying to live like how great men live before your time will be full of struggles. Keep paying the price to attain the high feat of greatness. It is worth it, even if you don’t see the present manifestation.
Bear with discomfort as you grow to see the fullness of your destiny being manifested. Stand up for your divine vision firmly in your mind and let the naysayers say what they want. If what’s in your mind is big, then I tell you today that don’t settle for less. Your mind must always be ahead of your body to sustain a life of vision.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to learn divine obedience through bearing with discomfort as I grow to see the fullness of my destiny in Christ. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
