Christmas is indeed a season of joy. Many families all around the world connect to feast. Churches beautify their buildings, and pastors teach about the birth of Jesus throughout this period. But in most cases, many people forget why this season is crucial. Or let me put it another way. Many people celebrate Christmas without discerning the reasons why Jesus came into the world. He didn’t come to be celebrated on Christmas holidays. He came with a mission – which is to revolutionise this world to conform to the patterns of God. Today, we’re going to learn about four reasons why the coming of Jesus connects with His mission.
1. To die and take away the sin of the world
The first person to announce one of the reasons why Jesus came into this world was John the Baptist. He said in John 1:29 (NIV) that,
“… Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
Jesus is the lamb of God. His death on the cross was necessary because it was through it that He made the atonement for the sin of all humanity. So on the cross, the Bible says He became sin (not a sinner) for us so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21). For God to deal with the sin of humanity, He decided to make Jesus pay the price. That’s why the Father didn’t allow Jesus to bypass his crucifixion and all the pain that came with it.
If you’re reading this right now, you’ve got to understand that Jesus came to die for you and take away the penalty of your sin. Don’t die without accepting Jesus as Lord and personal Saviour. Otherwise, you’ll pay that penalty for your sins in hell.
2. To destroy the works of the devil
“He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”
1 John 3:8 (NKJV)
Sin is the devil’s work. He helps people to commit it and even become slaves to it. Jesus’ mission is to change that. How? By giving anyone who comes to Him true freedom. So He said in John 8:36 (NIV) that,
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
True freedom isn’t just about stopping sin; it’s no longer wanting to. And let me tell you that only Jesus can give it to you. Maybe, you’re already saved but still battling with sins and addictions. Addiction can be a lack of proper time usage, watching porn, or playing video games. Come to Jesus today. Seek Him in prayer. He’ll deliver you and give you divine wisdom to walk in freedom. It’s not about what your human strength can do but what God’s grace will do in your life through your godly submission.
True freedom isn’t just about stopping sin; it’s no longer wanting to.

3. To give eternal life to whoever believes in Him
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16 (NIV)
God sent Jesus into the world to be the Only Way you can get access to eternal life. Jesus is the only way, truth and life. Nobody comes to the Father except through Him. So the option is now on you: Do you believe in Jesus? Yes, God has done His best to do everything we need to get salvation. But when you don’t believe in the name of Jesus, those benefits don’t apply to you. For this cause, take a bold step and be reconciled back to God today.
4. To seek and save that which is lost
Lastly, Jesus came to seek and save that which was lost. He said this first in Luke 19:10 (KJV).
“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Sometimes, we quote this scripture during evangelism to the unsaved. However, what Jesus meant was far beyond what many perceive this scripture to mean.
Jesus is saying He came to overturn everything that is lost to bring it back to God’s order. That starts with humans encountering salvation, marriages, behavioural changes, children’s upbringing, governmental and institutional systems, and everything else that makes up our world. That is one primary reason God’s interest in us goes beyond salvation.
Friend, I want to encourage you that with whatever you’ve been doing that is not working, invite Jesus to step in. It may be your family, education, ministry or business. Ask Jesus to get involved, and don’t limit or predict what He’ll do to help you. He’s full of surprises. It’s a part of His mission to help you. And as you celebrate Christmas and prepare for a new year, remember Him in all your ways. Merry Christmas.
