[24] “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” – 1 Corinthians 9:24 (NIV)
As a young boy, I loved to watch athletics. I was interested in who was the fastest in such races. But I never thought those athletes trained so well in their closets before the day of reckoning. I thought running fast was natural for them, which wasn’t (and still isn’t) true. Can I tell you something? Such is your life as a believer.
Your faith journey is like a race but with no competition with others. Why? Because each person’s destiny is different. That means there’s no need to compare your life to another person in Christ. But in this race, finishing strong is very necessary. Unfortunately, many believers don’t reach this level. In fact, there are very few people, even ministers of the gospel, who fulfil their entire life assignment before dying.
Again, your life is a journey. You must run in such a way as to get the prize. What prize? The crown of life that Jesus will give you upon His second coming (see James 1:12). You will not have it easy. There is no promise from the Lord in the scriptures that a believer’s faith journey will be smooth. But God has promised never to leave nor forsake us (see Hebrews 13:5). Be encouraged to press on no matter how bad things are today.
Has the Lord told you to start something? Don’t stop it when challenges come. Keep pressing on, and always know that every circumstance is temporary. Enjoy each day, and trust God for progression in whatever He has called you to do.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Lord, I choose to trust You for all that I need and even yet to fulfil Your divine mandate in my life. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
