By[14] “Even so the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel.” – 1 Corinthians 9:14 (NKJV)
When I was a little boy, I used to think that preachers didn’t eat and that they fasted throughout their entire lives. So, I was surprised whenever I saw a pastor take some food. But upon growing up and even becoming a minister, I realised I was wrong. In fact, to anyone who thinks like I used to think as a little boy, the earlier you repent, the better.
Preachers are also human beings. And preaching isn’t a lazy man’s work, as many see it. Many pastors work even harder than those in the corporate world. But the work of the ministry is vague to its outsiders. In other words, a person who isn’t a minister will hardly understand what pastors do. And so because of that, many people don’t see why preachers should earn a living from the gospel they preach, which is entirely wrong.
Those who preach the gospel should live off the gospel (see 1 Corinthians 9:14) . It is Biblical for every preacher to be paid by the church, although some don’t take it. Do you know why? Because some sacrifice their lives just to push the gospel forward. However, it is not wrong if a preacher earns a substantial salary from the church.
Do you know how many hours of study a pastor can pour in to get that sermon you come to sit down and enjoy every week? And let me even ask you: do you know what went into writing this devotional you are reading? Think about that. I see that too many people are enjoying other people’s labours without being concerned about their welfare, and on top of that, speaking against them. Please respect preachers of the gospel and support them.
