[2] “It is vain for you to rise up early, To sit up late, To eat the bread of sorrows; For so He gives His beloved sleep.” — Psalms 127:2 NKJV
Did you know you’re God’s beloved? It’s true because He loved you enough to die for you, even when you were without strength [(salvation) – see Romans 5:6)]. So if the Psalmist says God gives His beloved sleep, He’s talking about you – the saved of the Lord.
We live in a busy world full of activities here and there. I personally thought I’d be less occupied as I grew up, but it was the opposite. The more I grew to serve God with gladness in my heart, the more responsibilities kept adding up to my life. And His grace has been sufficient to see me through all these years. Even though I’m still young, I am glad for the accomplishments God had helped me to fulfil in a few years in ministry. But above all the duties of life, I thank Him that I’m at rest in my heart and mind.
God didn’t just save you to make you work for Him. No! It’s to build a relationship with You, full of love that whatever you do for Him will overflow from your intimacy with Him. It’s not God’s will to rise up early and sit up late in the night, all in the name of making money. Yes, there’s a dimension in grace to enable you to work beyond human strength. But that doesn’t replace the divine peace Jesus has left you with (John 14:27).
Purposeful work is good because it helps you to make an impact on people’s lives. But enjoying the Lord of the work is even better. Because of a truth, when His presence is with you, you’ll work diligently and enjoy His peace concurrently. Draw near to God.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the immense benefit of Your presence of divine peace in Christ. I declare that I enjoy divine rest no matter how many responsibilities are upon my head. I function by grace in all that I do. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
