“Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.” — Psalms 100:2 NKJV
I once encountered a friend I worked with in the media ministry of a church. Anytime we talk about taking responsibility, he’ll always shirk it to others. And one day, I confronted him about his actions. I asked, “Why are you always doing this? Don’t you know you are capable?” I believe this question goes to any lukewarm worker in the house of God.
In Psalm 100:2, we’re charged as Christians to serve the Lord with gladness. The word “gladness” comes from the Hebrew word “śimchâh,” which means “joy.” You are supposed to serve the Lord with joy in your heart always, not casually. So whatever you do which has been dedicated unto God, do it with joy in your heart by the empowerment of grace.
Joy isn’t like happiness to be regulated by happenings. No! It’s a constituent of the fruit of the Spirit. So it’s a permanent heart thing. Carry the mindset of a servant with whatever you’re doing, and you’ll love doing it as far as it’s glorifying God and helping others fulfil their purpose.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, I pray in Jesus’ name, remove every bitterness in my heart against doing Your work with a cheerful heart. Help me serve you with gladness, no matter where I am and what I do for Your name’s sake. Amen!
