“[5] In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: [6] Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; [7] rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.” — Philippians 2:5 - 7 NIV
Humility, by God’s definition, is one of the unfathomable yet powerful ways of life. It’s such that despite how big you are, you intentionally lower yourself to selflessly serve others while casting all your care upon the Lord. That’s how Jesus demonstrated it. He was (and is still God). But when He came to the Earth physically, He lowered Himself and took the nature of a servant – ministering to people, losing lots of sleep hours, and even battling within him to make hard decisions. How many Christians are like Jesus in this regard?
Paul showed us how to carry the humble mindset of Jesus in our relationships with one another using Philippians 2:5-7. He says we should not be title-conscious but servant-conscious, especially as leaders in Christ. That requires that, at certain times, you have to let go of some of your privileges in order to help others.
What sacrifices are you making today that contribute to Christ saving and forming in other people’s lives? What advantages and privileges are you forfeiting today just because of the blessedness of your generation, both the current ones and the unborn?
Jesus said in Matthew 16:25 (NKJV) that,
For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
That means you must learn how to abandon the enjoyment of some personal privileges for the cause of Christ if you really want to get the real meaning of life. Yes, your time, money and resources are yours. But will you use those possessions of yours for God? Go ahead and do it because your labour for the Lord in humility and sometimes suffering will never be in vain.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, I pray that you’ll help me to carry the humble mindset of Christ wherever I go. Don’t let me become title-conscious but rather servant-conscious in my leadership position. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
