“Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips.” — Proverbs 27:2 NKJV
Now more than ever, we have people who are experts in boasting about themselves and their achievements. Some ministers and motivational speakers use it while on platforms. And although it is not entirely wrong, it depends on how you use it. However, Solomon gave sound advice on this issue.
He said in Proverbs 27:2 that you should let another man praise you, not your own lips. In other words, don’t praise yourself before others, although you can take pride in what you’ve accomplished alone (Galatians 6:4 NIV).
Jesus said when we shine before men as believers, the goal is for them to glorify the God in us who helps us to do what we do (Matthew 5:16).
No matter how many great things you’ve achieved on this earth, remember that God gave you the strength and anointing to do it. Be careful of boasting about yourself because Nebuchadnezzar tried it and ended up in the bush for seven years (Daniel 4:28-37).
God is not a man to share His glory with anyone. So no matter how great your kingdom exploits are in the face of people, remember Him and give Him all the glory. People can honour you so much for what you do. But as a wise minister, don’t point them to yourself. Point them to Jesus. You’ll be safe.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, I pray that You’ll root out all arrogance in my heart. Help me to channel all glory to Your Holy name for whatever you’ve empowered me to do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
