Work When Times Are Both Good And Bad

“The lazy man will not plow because of winter; He will beg during harvest and have nothing.” — Proverbs 20:4 NKJV

Whenever there’s a projected recession, increase in taxes or inflation, many people complain to the government. Well, that’s common to see people do. But as children of God, we must be so anchored in our God that He’s able to provide everything we need to live fulfilled lives.

In Proverbs 20:4, Solomon tells us something interesting about lazy people. He says if you see someone refusing to plough his work environment because it’s winter, that person is a lazy man.

We all know that winter is characterised by ice all over the environment. So those times aren’t naturally favourable for planting seeds in the soil. But the Bible verse is figurative.

I understand Proverbs 20:4 this way: “If a man gives excuses to work because of bad conditions of nature or workplace, that person is lazy.” That means work is constant regardless of life conditions.

Whether you’re in lack, debt, or enjoying riches, you must be determined to work. I’ve not seen any millionaire who does not work. It’s not an exception to them.

No matter the situation in your life right now, labour. Work when times are both good and hard. Proverbs 10:4 (NKJV) says,

“He who has a slack hand becomes poor, But the hand of the diligent makes rich.”

Hard work won’t kill you. Commit to what God has called you to do, and you’ll see it flourish. Shalom.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, I pray that You’ll grace me with the strength to work when times are both good and bad. Root out every demonic suggestion of slothfulness in my mind right now! I declare that my mind is governed by Your Word, now and ever. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
