“Seven times a day I praise you for your righteous laws.” — Psalms 119:164 NIV
One of my favourite scriptures in the book of Psalms is Psalm 119:164. In that verse, David gives us one of the keys to living a praiseful life unto God. No wonder God explicitly said he’s a man after His heart, even before David became king of Israel (1 Samuel 13:14).
David said he praised God seven times a day solely because of His righteous laws. In other words, he built a spiritual system to remain connected to God despite his family and kingly duties.
Today, many people claim to be too busy to even pray to God. Yes, God knows you live in a busy world. He knows how your job can stress you and draw life from your inner man. Yet, He tells us to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). That means that no child of God has any excuse to abandon his intimate fellowship with the Lord, regardless of life pressures and circumstances.
Pastor, it’s God first before ministry. Mother, it’s God first before the kids. Father, it’s God first before your family and your job or work.
If you build a spiritual system to help you remain connected with God wherever you are, you’ll not starve your spirit of divine nourishment in the Lord.
In David’s time, there weren’t any stopwatches, alarms or even mobile phone reminder applications. Yet, he knew the specific times within each day that he had to pause everything he was doing to praise God.
You have at least one phone or electronic device. Can’t you use it to set specific times to remind you to pray? Can’t you give yourself at least fifteen seconds each hour to speak in the language of the Spirit? I mean, these are rudimentary spiritual growth hacks you can use to improve upon your devotion to God.
You may not always have the time to be in your local church for fellowship. However, never trade your private time of divine fellowship for anything. Jealously guard your private time with God. Be like David, and live in consecration unto God.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I ask You to grant me the divine wisdom to build spiritual systems and structures that’ll guide me to remain connected to You wherever I go, lest my fellowship with You suffers neglect. Amen!
