“Nevertheless, the one who receives instruction in the word should share all good things with their instructor.” — Galatians 6:6 NIV
If you can be honest with yourself, think about how many times you’ve supported or prayed for those who preach God’s Word to you.
We’re in a world whereby many people are so focused on getting from others without sowing into their lives. While this practice is not really encouraged amongst worldly people, it’s so common in churches today.
Many brethren in Christ are used to taking advantage of the professionalism of other believers to get services for free. And even though this is a bad practice, some give a flimsy excuse to their service personnel in the faith not to pay their compensation. Oh, they say, “it’s unto God.” Meanwhile, which worker likes working for free except by his choice?
Did you know that the preacher is also a service personnel? Just because he doesn’t dress like a worker in a secular work environment doesn’t mean he doesn’t work. So if even worldly people expect to get paid after working, why should this principle be ignored in Christ? That’s unrighteousness.
Apostle Paul said clearly in Galatians 6:6 that the one who’s taught the Word should share in all good things with their instructor. In other words, it’s mandatory for congregants, whether physical or online, to support the one who ministers God’s Word to them. This isn’t the preacher or you. It’s the principle of God.
Now Galatians 6:6 doesn’t limit that support to just finances. Paul says, “… in all good things.” So finance is part. Prayer is part. Support of other personal needs is also part.
But you see, many ministers of God don’t use this privilege. Why? Because a lot of believers don’t understand it, and some even think doing this as a minister is a way of luring them to earn from them. Friend, this isn’t about the preacher or you. It’s about the principles of God.
Genuine preachers of the Word will continue doing the work of the ministry whether they get support or not. However, to help you see the manifestation of the provisions of God in your life and your entire household, make it a heart desire to support the one who ministers God’s Word to you, whether virtual or in your local church.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, develop in me a heart desire to support the servants of God you’ve placed in my life to minister Your Word to my life. Give me many provisions to help them as a way of obeying Your principle in Galatians 6:6 (NIV), which says, “the one who receives instruction in the word should share all good things with their instructor.” In Jesus’ name. Amen!
