[1] “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; [2] For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. [3] For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour” – 1 Timothy 2:1-3 (KJV)
Authority figures in society play a significant role in ensuring the day-to-day affairs of every community, city, and nation flow smoothly. If the president of your country gets overthrown through a coup d’état, do you think you will have enough peace to hold church services? Of course not. Right! You will not even feel comfortable moving around because of constant threats to your life.
In 1 Timothy 2:1-3, Paul admonished us to pray for those in authority – kings, government officials, and the like. In addition to that, he said doing this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour. You may ask whether people in authority need prayers. After all, don’t they have enough money and security? Yes, they do. Why? If you don’t pray for them, their minds will start conceiving evil thoughts. And when such thoughts get implemented, people will suffer, including you. That is why I believe that many people are suffering in this world because the devil is giving bad ideas to those in authority.
Dear Christian, your prayers for government officials are necessary. Don’t abort such a practice. Many leaders will lead well if they are surrounded by able ministers of God who advise them daily on what and what not to do. Keep praying!
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, I pray for all those in authority. Give them good ideas to run our communities well so that Your people will be able to lead a godly life devoid of struggles in this perverse generation. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
