Many people are joyful when they receive a calling into ministry. But most are not told what is involved in an effective minister’s life. Maybe you see big-time pastors online wearing good clothes and nice suits and have large numbers of people turning up for church. So you think that is all about ministry? Friend, let nobody deceive you.
In Philippians 4:12, the great Apostle Paul said he knew what it is to be in need and to have plenty. He affirmed that there were times he was well-fed and other times he went hungry. Imagine that – “hungry”? Even Paul sometimes endured hunger in ministry. I’m sure that there are more pastors who struggle to make ends meet in this generation. Statistics even show that many pastors are underpaid.
As a sheep entrusted to your shepherd, there is a charge on you to share in all good things with your shepherd (see Galatians 6:6). So giving directly to your pastor is not a sin. It’s Biblical and acceptable. However, as a minister of the gospel, don’t let your hope be in people to take care of you. Don’t do that at all! Learn the secret of being content in any and every situation. Don’t give up thinking visionary thoughts. But hope in God to lift you!
