[11] “The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.” – Proverbs 14:11 NIV
In the Old Testament days, many people weren’t building houses like we see today. There hardly existed cement. Bricks and tents were predominant in those days. Today, things are different. However, what God inspired Solomon to write in Proverbs 14:11 stands. For the sake of this devotional, I’ll focus on the second part of the scripture, which says, “… the tent of the upright will flourish.” What does that mean? Let’s break it down.
Tents were (and are still) used by people who are living temporarily in a place. Why? So that when they are relocating, they’ll not struggle to unpack the structure. So, if the scripture says the tent of the righteous shall flourish and the house of the wicked will be destroyed, there’s a powerful revelation there.
It means even if wicked people are rich enough to have built permanent houses, even full of luxury, in the end, all those possessions will be destroyed. But for righteous people of God, even if they are struggling to find a permanent place to live, they shall flourish where they are. So, dear believer, you may not have built a house yet. But even with the place you’re renting, you’ll prosper.
Don’t pressure yourself to live beyond your means as a believer. Be content with how far God has brought you, enjoying today while collaborating with Him to plan and make advancements towards your future.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, I choose to lean on You for everything I need. Supply all my needs according to Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
