“One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake. So they got into a boat and set out. As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.” — Luke 8:22 - 24 NIV
One time, Jesus informed the disciples that they should move together to the other side of the lake of Galilee. Peter, with some other disciples, was an already experienced fisherman. Hence, they already knew how to sail the boat. So Jesus didn’t control the rudder. Instead, He went to sleep.
As they journeyed on, a storm arose and was beating into the ship. Even though it was a demonic attack, the disciples didn’t know. They were doing their best to stabilise the boat, seeing that their master was resting and didn’t want to disturb Him. But on that day, their experience failed them. Quickly, they went to wake Jesus up, who then spoke to calm the storm.
After Jesus had performed the miracle, he asked them where their faith was. Why? Because He said to them, “Let’s move to the other side.” In other words, they should have believed what Jesus told them more than the situation they faced in the sea.
It’s interesting how obstacles arise in Christian’s lives who decide to follow the ways of God. Some are real-life circumstances, but some are demonic. However, the most important thing one must always do is to hold on to God’s Word.
When Jesus said, “Let’s move to the other side,” that statement was more powerful than the storm that arose to counteract their journey. That means what God has promised to do in your life through His leadership is more powerful than the temporary circumstances in your life today.
Fret not, child of God. Hold on to God’s Word. He’s committed to ensuring that what He has said about you will come to pass. Allow Him to lead you because He’ll not fail you.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Oh God, thank You for Your Word in my life. Today, I choose to trust what You’ve promised to do in my life more than my problems. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
