“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” - Matthew 5:16 NKJV
We believers in Christ must remain conscious of the Truth that Christ, the light of the world, is in us. And that makes us also the light of the world. Every light is made to shine for the benefit of others. In our case, the light in us is supposed to shine before men.
When a light bulb shines, it brightens the environment. Moreover, people can also see the bulb emitting the light vividly. Jesus explained how Christians, the light of the world, can shine before men. That is, by walking in good works. When you do that, they’ll see the Christ in you.
Looking at Matthew 5:16 again, Jesus didn’t say others will see your light and glorify the Father in heaven. He says, “they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Friend, your good works emit the light of Christ in your heart.
A good man brings out the good treasures stored in his heart (Luke 6:45a). If God has given you a new heart (Ezekiel 36:26) filled with the desire to do His will and good pleasure (Philippians 2:13), then let the light in you shine before men by doing what the He says.
You don’t need to live to please others. No matter what you do, people will talk, both positively and negatively. Just receive grace (divine enablement) in your heart to serve God acceptably with godly fear and reverence. And then, your light will shine before men, giving glory to God. Don’t make anybody lie to you that following God is a mistake. It is very beneficial.
You’re a blessing.
