“And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.” — Romans 6:13 NKJV
When a sick person gets well, he doesn’t want to associate himself with drugs and hospital matters. Why? Because he’s now strong and must move on with life.
In the same way, before you got saved, you were dead in sins. So now God has quickened you together with Christ, you’re alive in the Lord and free from sin (Ephesians 2:5). Therefore, the sinful nature in you is dead. However, you didn’t lose your flesh – the corrupt impulses in your mortal body. Here’s when making an intentional choice of who to submit your body to comes into consideration.
Romans 6:13 tells us that we shouldn’t present our members (every part of our mortal body) as instruments of unrighteousness to sin but unto God as being alive from the dead. In other words, live in your “now” of God as alive in Christ, not how you lived in waywardness before becoming saved. You think you can’t do that by yourself; indeed, you are able because of the empowerment of the Holy Spirit in you. Reading 1 Peter 2:1-2 (NKJV), it’s written that,
[1] “Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, [2] as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,”
Even as a baby Christian, you have the power to lay aside all malice, deceit, hypocrisy and all evil speaking. God is very generous, giving all these abilities, even to the new convert. But can you look within the Word and believe in God’s power inside you? Of a truth, if you don’t do this, you’ll not see the tremendous potential locked up in you in Christ.
Your body isn’t a rag whereby anyone, including yourself or the devil, can use it for filthy things. No! It’s God’s temple (1 Corinthians 3:16). Present yourself unto God as being alive from the dead, wholly and not in parts. Make a conscious decision to serve God with gladness in your heart daily. Your path will shine brighter in the Lord if you choose this path.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, I renounce any fragment of my soul served unto the devil’s work. I choose to present myself as being alive unto You in Christ. I also decide to serve You with reverence by grace. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
