God Is Not Slack Concerning His Promise

[8] “But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. [9] The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” — 2 Peter 3:8-9 (NKJV)

Some people have questioned why God took so long to respond to the fall of man in Genesis 3 by introducing Jesus into the world in the New Testament. But 2 Peter 3:8 answers this. The Apostle says, “… with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” So by man’s inclination, it took Him thousands of years to make Jesus incarnate. But unto Him, it was just a few days.

Here’s the point. God is not slack concerning His promise. He’s a visionary God who knows the end from the beginning. In other words, before A would have happened, He had programmed when to respond with the right solution. That’s why Jesus was slain before the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8). His coming wasn’t a response to the fall but the intent of God according to how He has planned this world to be.

Maybe God has started showing you glimpses of your bright future, and you keep wondering when all those images in your mind will be made manifest.

I want to encourage you that fret not. He knows what He’s doing. Yes, it could be you’re not that satisfied with where you are in your life presently. But He exalts the humble in His due time (1 Peter 5:6). It may be that He’s testing you to develop administrative skills, nurture your convictions about your calling and learn faithfulness to its extremity before launching you into the fullness of your divine calling. I’ll repeat what the preacher said in Ecclesiastes 9:10 (NKJV) to you, that,

[10] ”Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.”

You cannot work when you’re dead. So give your best wherever you are, knowing that your service is first unto the Lord before man. He is faithful to fulfilling everything He has said concerning your life.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, thank You for the assurance that You’re not slack concerning Your promises upon my life. Today, I choose to trust You when I can’t trace You in every season of my life. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
