[7] “I wish that all of you were as I am. But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.” – 1 Corinthians 7:7 (NIV)
I love it when I read the Apostle Paul’s epistles. Some parts are so funny for me but still carry the truth. In 1st Corinthians 7, he wrote concerning marriage. And he recommended people, especially the males in the Corinthian church, to get their own wives to curb the fornication that was rampant there. That means it is possible for one woman to satisfy a man sexually for life, and that comes with marriage. Many people who fornicate later realise that there’s nothing good in it to offer them. And that is especially encountered by females who are growing old without getting husbands.
But in verse 7, he said that he wished those people were like him – in that they were more focused on serving God all their lives without marriage. But he added that everybody has a different gift. So, in Christ, some people are gifted to live alone perfectly. But those who don’t have such a gift desire to marry. Marriage is not bad unless you marry a bad spouse. That is why God gives you enough resources to help you choose well. Don’t be deceived by people who want to be married for selfish purposes.
Aside from what Paul meant concerning marriage in 1 Corinthians 7:7, I believe that verse also speaks of the diversity of divine gifts in us. You have a divine gift in you. It could be more than one, but at least, each person’s own is unique. However, to live out such a gift for the benefit of many, you must refine it. Don’t toy with your life. Discover your purpose in the Lord and keep following suit. Through that, you’ll make an impact on your generation.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your divine gifts in me. May I never live neglecting them. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
