[36] “Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.” – Luke 6:36 (NKJV)
How does it feel to get caught by your father when doing something he hates? You’ll be helpless and just hope that you’ll not get beaten. Right? That is the kind of fear many kids battle with at home, especially kids from broken homes in Africa. Even though it is good to discipline children for doing wrong things, I believe that those acts are ways God uses to teach us to be merciful to others who deserve to be punished for engaging in outrageous acts.
Imagine the plenty of years of you living in sin before God sent someone to preach the gospel to you to be saved. God was patient with you and always held on His peace, knowing that you will be saved one day. Why, then, do you judge another fellow when he does something wrong, even when caught red-handed? We live in a generation where people’s opinions are becoming louder than the principles of God, especially on social media. Everybody thinks he has something evil to say about someone else. Backbiting has never saved anyone.
Dear friend, Jesus said in Luke 17:1 (NKJV), “… It is impossible that no offenses should come …”. So whether you like it or not, someone will always do something against you, both in your presence or absence, even if you’ve done nothing wrong. When such people are caught, first be merciful to them before you give out the right punishment to them (if you have the authority) to make them desist from such acts.
God watches what everybody does, both publicly and privately. Live with a forgiving heart and always give grace to people for their faults.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to be merciful to others for the wrong things they do to me. May I have the strength to forgive people as You have forgiven me. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
