Plans Are Established by Seeking Advice

[18] “Plans are established by seeking advice; so if you wage war, obtain guidance.” – Proverbs 20:18 (NIV)

How many times have you made (and even written) plans but were never able to follow them? Maybe you didn’t know how to keep track of your progress through it. Or, probably, new problems arose and discouraged you or threw you off balance in life. Yes, things happen. Even in several organisations, many businesses had to reschedule some of their plans due to circumstances that arose against them. Sometimes, it is normal. Other times, it is dangerous, especially when such plans get abandoned.

The scripture says in Proverbs 20:18 that plans are established by seeking advice (counsel). Think about that! A primary reason you may be experiencing problems following through on some plans you make is that you may lack enough counsel about how they will work. I know many people advocate that people should generally have a positive mind, which I agree with. But optimism doesn’t cancel real problems.

Sometimes, how you plan to do something may be wrong. Other times, you can miss out on including a careful hurdle you are supposed to cross before reaching a destination of your choice. In all these, there are two significant things to do.

  1. Don’t relinquish your plans unless God tells you to abandon or modify them.
  2. Seek counsel by contacting more experienced people or through research. It doesn’t diminish who you are.

Nobody became a genius in any area of life by accident. They kept learning throughout the journey until they reached their current level. If you have the opportunity to meet such people, especially those in your field of life or career, learn as much as you can from them. But if not, take advantage of the resources they share online.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to seek advice from the right people concerning anything I intend to do. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
