“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,” — Hebrews 12:1 NKJV
In all the Olympic Games I’ve watched on television, I’ve never seen athletes marking their own track lines for their respective races. Neither have I seen an empty stadium whenever a race is going on. Even if there are no people physically present, I suppose there are many more people watching online.
Do you know what that means? The race had been set before the athletes came to the field. Secondly, they have supporters cheering them on as they run.
It is the same in Christ. No Christian came into Christ to design how he’ll live before God. God had already set the race of faith even before we came into Christ through salvation. Secondly, there are heroes of faith who’re cheering us on as we run God’s race before us. Now, without the spiritual eye being open, we will not see them. Yet, that doesn’t deny their absence around the children of God in the realm of the Spirit.
Even if an athlete has fans and knows his track in a race he’s participating in, his whole consciousness shouldn’t be on the fans but on the race. In the same way, Bible tells us Christians that we should lay aside every weight and the sin that easily entangles us purposefully to focus on the race of faith set before us.
You’re on a faith journey with your faith author and finisher—Jesus. Situations will come. Circumstances will come. But if you’ll remain focused on Him and His assignment on your life, everything will work out for your good. Don’t be a part of the people always seeking things from God. He called you and knew your purpose. Depend on Him. Trust Him, and keep moving. He’ll help you.
You’re a blessing.
