[5] “Look at the nations and watch— and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.” — Habakkuk 1:5 NIV
You may have enjoyed Christmas and read all our previous Advent devotions. But seeing a new year just around the corner, I suppose you’ve started listing some things you want to see in your life. Many people call it New Year Resolutions. But do they work?
According to a study by researchers at the University of Scranton, 23% of people give up their new year’s resolutions after just one week. And I suppose even more people give up months into the year. I believe the reason behind these failures is a lack of understanding of how incapacitative and limiting human strength is to change any significant thing. That’s why in Christ, God gives you the grace to live godly lives.
As I meditated on what the Lord is about to do in the upcoming year, I was led to read Habakkuk 1:5. In that verse, it’s written that what God is about to do is so surprising that even if the prophet, Habakkuk, was briefed about its details, he’ll be shocked.
Now I understand that God released this Word for a specific reason at the time of the writing. But there’s no stale Word of God. Habakkuk 1:5 applies to you and me today.
Dear child of God, it’s time to prepare to see divine surprises in the upcoming year. Don’t treat it like just another year filled with ordinary activities and life’s battles. No! God is about to do something in your life that will exceed your expectations. But, it’ll be according to His power at work in you (see Ephesians 3:20). Are you ready?
What if God has prepared a greater impact ministry for you in the upcoming year, yet you think like a local champion today? Surely, you’ll not have enough space in your life to accommodate that miracle.
Change your thinking pattern. Delve deeper into the Word. And believe in God for great things. He will make them happen in your life.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, as I prepare for the year ahead, expand my thinking capacity to expect to accomplish greater things in Christ in the power of Your Spirit in me. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
