[16] “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, [17] that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” — 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV
When I entered the world of work afresh as a recent graduate, I remember receiving counsel from my first boss to focus on specialising in my career. That was good and professional advice, yet it wasn’t prudent to apply it in the kingdom of God. Why? Because 2 Timothy 3:16-17 defies that doctrine of the person.
In that verse, Paul elaborates on the truth that God wants Timothy, who happened to be a young pastor in the ministry, to become multifunctional in the ministry. He didn’t want him to use the Scriptures as just a doctrinal tool but also to use it to reproof, correct and instruct God’s people in righteousness. I believe this is why God has given pastors the anointing not just to preach but to correct and instruct them in His way. For instance, pastoral counselling is part of the ministry’s work.
Dear believer, there are graces in every field of God’s kingdom work. Now, there might be many Christians and servants of God in His vineyard. But the ministry isn’t a place to specialise your anointing. It’s a place to do whatever God assigns you to do.
Be not a fan of running away from duties in God’s kingdom, or else, you discard the grace available to do it excellently. May God strengthen you to become multifunctional in the ministry.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the graces available to Your children in this dispensation of grace. Let it abound in our lives as we work with You to expand Your kingdom’s influence on lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
