[33] “So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.” – Luke 14:33 (NKJV)
When parents raise their kids till they are about two years old, what’s next on their minds? School, right? But you may ask, what is the purpose of school? It’s simply to teach and grow the child to become well educated in society. That is discipleship, and it’s the same thing that is supposed to happen in church.
Many believers don’t know that the main reason why Jesus established the church is for disciples to be made, not just to get people saved. And in fact, it is a lot of work to raise souls in the Lord through consistent teaching of sound doctrine. The work of pastors is tedious, even more than that of school teachers. Why? You’re dealing with diverse kinds of people of various ages, which you cannot control, unlike in a school setting, where a child can be punished for not coming to school.
Jesus said in Luke 14:33 that becoming His disciple comes with a cost. You must forsake certain things you do to cleave unto Him. And if every congregant understands this well, preachers of the gospel won’t suffer so much to make them come to church or even for visitation.
Dear believer, nobody will force you to build commitment to studying the Word and following the teachings of Christ each day. But know that becoming a disciple of Jesus comes with a cost. Pay that price to build a deeper intimacy with Jesus, and you will know Him better.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for saving me. Help me to know you better each day. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
