“Do not exalt yourself in the presence of the king, And do not stand in the place of the great; For it is better that he say to you, “Come up here,” Than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince, Whom your eyes have seen.” — Proverbs 25:6 - 7 NKJV
In this world, I do not think anybody likes to stay in one place for long. Everybody wants to progress. And one of the factors that stir up progress is exaltation.
To exalt means to raise or bring up. God can do it for you, but you can do it yourself if you want. It’s just that when you do it yourself, it’s either you are trying to tell others how important you are or just focused on making yourself known in a public space.
The Bible says “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6). In another verse, it says “humble yourself before the Lord, and He may exalt you in due time” (1 Peter 5:6.) There’s a time for the Lord’s exaltation. And until you understand that God can take you far higher than you ought, you’ll not trust Him enough to exalt you according to His own timing for your life.
Your identity isn’t in what you do, own, or even in how you speak. Your identity is in Christ. You don’t need the presence of other people to feel important because if you rest in your understanding of your kingdom value, you’ll be satisfied in God.
No matter where you go, be wise. Sit in lower places, even if you’re the most influential person in the world. When the host sees you, that person will help you go up there. That is how we express Christ’s humility in us. We are sheep amongst wolves in this world. Therefore, be wise. Don’t exalt yourself. Be humble, and let God exalt you.
You’re a blessing.
