[7] “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. [8] This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.” — Proverbs 3:7 - 8 NIV
Interacting with several people as a minister, I’ve realised that many people try hard to figure out how to do things they desire in future today. I’ve also seen many of those projects fail. And even though lack of focus on the vision is the primary cause of this tragedy, I believe being wise in one’s own eyes is also another cause of that.
When was the last time you planned how to spend your day in a particular way, yet got hit by several interruptions? You weren’t happy. Right? Do you know why? You leaned on your own wisdom to carry out your day. Meanwhile, God had a plan for you which you didn’t know.
I’ve learned that it’s great to plan because it creates focus in life. But while carrying out those plans, I’ve seen God do several random activities in my life through people that have ended up making me complete many projects faster than I thought.
In the same way, I’ve also seen the devil try to use people to counteract God’s plan for my days, usually by presenting seemingly good offers to me with a dead end, and I followed them. But in all my mistakes, God saved me from perishing because of the blessedness of vision He has given me.
In as much as I can testify what God has done for me, I cannot neglect the impact of Proverbs 3:7-8 in my life, and I recommend you take those Bible verses seriously. It says,
“Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.”
When you view life based on your calculations of how things should go for you, you’ll end up leaning on your own understanding, which is dangerous because the God factor would be missing.
To not become wise in your own eyes, learn to trust in the Lord with all your heart and avoid evil as long as you can discern it.
God has given you the wisdom to navigate life well. Ask Him for more of it and use it, so the quality of your life will become better as you grow spiritually. Then, you’ll enjoy what the preacher said in Proverbs 3:8 NKJV: “This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.”
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for grace and daily provision in my life. I pray, in the name of Jesus, help me understand Your ways so as to use them in power to bring glory unto Christ. Amen!
