Three Things Solomon Reveals about Wealth in the Book of Proverbs

According to I Timothy 6:17, God is the supplier of all needs. Hence, the One responsible for our financing is God. But after He supplies every need of ours, it is necessary for us to properly manage what He has given us. Doing well in finances makes one confident and also helps us to secure an inheritance for generations (see Proverbs 13:22). In this article, we’re going to learn three things Solomon reveals about wealth in the book of Proverbs. Are you ready? Let’s dive in!

#1 An ill-gotten wealth does not prosper

According to Proverbs 13:11, wealth obtained by fraud dwindles. Think about it. Do you think money obtained in the wrong ways last forever? Certainly not. And then, it continues to tell us that whoever gathers little by little makes it grow. In simple terms, wealth gained easily will disappear quickly. We tend to spend money that we make easily without even thinking about it. That is why, as children of God, we should not be greedy. Being greedy can make you involve yourself in things that the ungodly do. Such things draw us away from God.

#2 It is wise to save money

Let us take a look at Proverbs 21: 20 (AMP).

[20] “There is precious treasure and oil in the house of the wise [who prepare for the future], But a short-sighted and foolish man swallows it up and wastes it.”

The Bible tells us not to worry about tomorrow because God is the supplier of everything (see Matthew 6:25, 31). Now, if you read Matthew 6:25, you might think it’s unnecessary to plan or save money. But the caution about this danger is in Proverbs 21:20.

It is wise to save according to Proverbs 21:20. Not only does it make you increase your riches. but also helps you in terms of unforeseen circumstances. Also, it prevents you from using all your money for things you’ve not planned to do or achieve. Be wise not to spend everything you get.

#3 Wealth gives you confidence

Proverbs 18:11 says (NKJV),

“The rich man’s wealth is his strong city,
And like a high wall in his own esteem.”

So from the verse above, the wealth of a rich man is like a city in his mind. He lives comfortably and financially free. How good will it be to live as such with God as your God, not your riches? So good, right?

Wealth, most definitely, increases your confidence in life. When there is wealth, and any unforeseen situations happen that require money to be used, you can easily do it and solve that problem. Imagine working without being paid well. You’ll start thinking of changing your mind about the kind of job you do. Nobody wants to struggle. But recognise that it takes a lot of wisdom to be financially free, even as a Christian.

Serve God with a pure heart and live by the principles of scripture concerning finances. You’ll soon improve in your area of finances.

You’re a blessing.
