“A discerning person keeps wisdom in view, but a fool’s eyes wander to the ends of the earth.” — Proverbs 17:24 NIV
What does it mean to keep wisdom in view? It’s to look intently at matters, take and stick to godly decisions that will guard you against falling into traps. That was what Job did to maintain marital faithfulness to his wife.
He said in Job 31:1 (NIV) that,
I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.
He knew that looking too deeply into a young woman beyond her appearance could make him lust after her. So he covenanted with his eyes not to look lustfully at such people. Remember that Job was a godly man, and God never condemned this decision of his. That tells us that God respects our decisions if we make them out of wisdom, even if it’s about our future.
Yes, God holds the keys to our future. Yes, He indeed knows what’s ahead of us. However, He has given each Christian a spiritual eye that has the potential to envision what’s ahead by the revelation of the Spirit in the prophetic (John 16:13).
Your spiritual senses are not for your beautification but for enhancement. If you have been privileged to see what’s ahead of you, keep wisdom in view and make preparations today, lest you fall into traps when the time is due. And I must say that if you do this, others may mock your actions. But stand strong. The end is much more important than the beginning. The Egyptians thought it was a joke for Joseph to store food for seven years, but they didn’t know famine was coming.
Pray and see what’s coming, and start denying pleasures and comfort to prepare today.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I receive grace to discern what’s ahead of me. So that by keeping wisdom in view, I’ll make strategic preparations today to remain strong when the time of adversity comes. Amen!
