God-Made Interruptions

“So when the Samaritans had come to Him, they urged Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. And many more believed because of His own word.” — John 4:40-41 NKJV

Like many men, I’m someone who plans each one of my days. And one thing I really don’t like is for me to be distracted for long. However, there are some days God surprises me with things I never think about when scheduling my daily duties. I call those moments God-made interruptions.

In the days of Jesus’ physical existence on the earth, there were no to-do list apps and notebooks. Yet Jesus lived each of His days purposefully. He never went anywhere without a mission. But there were some days people sought after Him so much that He had to reschedule His ministry duties. One of them was His impromptu two-day stay in Samaria.

Bible says in John 4:3-4 (NKJV) that “He (Jesus) left Judea and departed again to Galilee. But He needed to go through Samaria.” Jesus was on a mission to Galilee. Then He met a Samaritan woman, who eventually believed in Him as the Messiah and went to tell the whole city about Him.

Verse 40 of John 4 states plainly that the Samaritans urged Jesus to stay with them. I suppose that was a ministry schedule blow-up to Jesus. Nevertheless, He stayed with them for two days before leaving for Galilee. Even Jesus didn’t have His way all the time.

Sometimes, God won’t go according to your schedule to deliver His works of purpose. He’ll interrupt you with pressing needs that are essential to you that may not have even passed through your mind. He gave you the eternal life you have in Christ. So do not dictate how you want to live. Plan, not without the help of His Spirit. But recognize that you’re not always accurate on what He wants you to do in a day. Live purposefully, but be open to God-made interruptions because there are things God will definitely use you to do that will never be captured in your plans.

You’re a blessing.
