[19] “Listen, my son, and be wise, and set your heart on the right path:” – Proverbs 23:19 (NIV)
In Proverbs 4:23 (NKJV), the Bible says,
“Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.”
So, from this, we understand that what you store in your heart directly affects how you live. Even though we live in an evil age, where people don’t care about doing evil things against others for selfish gain, there is something God’s Word says you can do that will help you to live a life that pleases God. It’s called setting your heart on the right path. What does it mean?
To set your heart on the right path means to be committed to following the ways of God ardently. That requires heavy mental work. Let me give you an example. Have you seen an athlete ready to run? His eyes are always set on the track ahead of him and not on others. Now, if you’re to set your heart on the right path, then it means you must stay focused on doing what is right, for which only God can help you do that. You may ask, why do I say that? Jesus said in Luke 16:15 (NKJV) that,
“… For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.”
That means the definition of good and evil can only be given accurately by God, not by any theory or culture. Dear believer, you’re an ambassador of Christ. Determine in your heart to live as such.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your guidance. Help me to set my heart on the right path in every area of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
