“Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” — I Peter 5:5 NKJV
To submit to something is to be yielded to it. In the kingdom of God, there are hierarchies of divine authority. But in Christ, there is neither male nor female (Galatians 3:26-28). So when it comes to submission as brethren, it’s unto one another as fitting in the Lord. What do I mean when I say that?
We submit to one another as brethren because of Christ, who lives in us. Therefore, as long as another Christian is speaking about something that glorifies Christ, it’s essential to submit to the Word being ministered. That is because we’re one body in Christ. And we need one another. So a person may uncommonly minister to you; but if you live in the consciousness of the Truth that it’s God speaking through the person to you, paying attention to the Word won’t be a problem.
So many Christians do not listen to godly counsel from their fellow Christians. They can be close to you, hear what you’re saying, but hardly take notice of the spoken word so as to walk with it. That’s unfortunate because they’ll be disadvantaged. God doesn’t only speak from church pulpits but also in our daily conversations as brethren.
Fellow Christians, submit to one another in the Lord. Nobody is too old or young in Christ to minister to you. Clothe yourself in godly humility and be attentive to the Word of God coming out of the mouths of the brethren.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray never to trivialise Your Word spoken by each one of your children for my edification. Help me see You manifest in the daily conversations with the brethren. Amen!
