[1] “Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good,” – Titus 3:1 (NIV)
When I was a child, I didn’t care who became the president of my country. However, as I grew and participated in voting, I became more aware of how important government figures are to society, even though they are one of the most criticised categories of people I have ever known.
Paul, a great apostle of Jesus Christ, was inspired by the Holy Spirit to tell us Christians to be subject to rulers and authorities. My question is, why that, since most of these government officials don’t do what is right? That was what he explained in Romans 13:1, which says,
“… for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” — Romans 13:1 (NIV)
So here is it. Even though not all rulers and authorities do the right thing every time, they are there because God placed them there. For that sake, you must be subject to them. So, dear believer, be a law-abiding citizen of your country and voice your opinion when it matters, but don’t insult government officials. If you are unhappy about how they are ruling the country or society, vote that person out of power. That’s why their term of office is defined. Let God deal with them when they do something wrong, and don’t soil your integrity.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for grace and mercy. Please help me to be subject to rulers and authorities in my country as I live to fulfil my divine mandate. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
