The human desire for things is insatiable. It is even worse now as new items constantly emerge on the market daily. Often, people purchase these items just for the sake of it and not even because they need them. Needful things have consumed people’s lives so much that some don’t even pursue knowing God intimately anymore. Today, many people pursue education, love, money and the like while leaving God aside. Man is, however, never really satisfied. I’m not saying that getting some things in life isn’t necessary. However, seeking them should not be our only priority. That is because when we seek Christ instead, all these things will be given to us. The Bible, therefore, says in Matthew 6:33 that we should seek first the kingdom of God, and all other things will be added to us. In this article, we will delve into the art of depending on God’s provision as the source of all things that we need and how, when we seek him, we can finally have the satisfaction we desire.

Everyone has needs

Every individual has needs, desires and wants. As highlighted in the introduction, it is right to have these. It is how we handle these needs that determines how we live. The Bible says that the love for money is the root of evil. So then, money itself is not necessarily wrong to have. As a Christian, you are even entitled to be without want (Psalms 23:1). However, when you lose Christ as the focus of your gaining, then the problem arises. To be able to pursue your needs the right way, you must rely on God.

Let us not envy others or rely on temporary solutions but patiently wait on God, knowing He has our best interests at heart.

Learn to ask God

In Psalms 37:4 (NKJV), the Bible says,

“Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.”

It should also be your prayer that God will align your needs and desires with His in your life. But that is only possible when you are intimate with Him, usually by constantly praying and reading His Word. It is, therefore, not right to envy others because God gives what He knows is best for every person (Jeremiah 29:11). That is why you must be satisfied with what God has given you, because He will always give His children an expected end.

Be patient

In challenging situations, people usually trust and find solace in others’ assurance and things, which is not good. But God has already provided His Holy Spirit, your helper, that you can lean upon. You must rely patiently on God to provide everything you need.

In summary, the art of depending on God for provision is a vital aspect of Christian living. Our insatiable desires and pursuit of worldly things can lead us astray, causing us to forget to rely on God. However, when we seek Him first, He promises to provide all our needs. Let us not envy others or rely on temporary solutions but patiently wait on God, knowing He has our best interests at heart. May we learn to depend on Him entirely, embrace His provision and timing, and find joy in His presence. As we trust in His goodness and sovereignty, he shall indeed supply all my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (see Philippians 4:19).
