[27] “Stop listening to instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.” – Proverbs 19:27 (NIV)
Life is a journey. And how each one will walk on his journey is influenced by his knowledge. That is why giving children a good foundation from their infancy has much effect on the kind of life they’ll dream of living. Kids whose godly parents brought them up in the fear and admonition of the Lord don’t grow up to become promiscuous in life, except they join a bad company, which the Bible says will corrupt good behaviour (see 1 Corinthians 15:33). On the other hand, kids who grew up in a promiscuous environment usually grow up to exhibit that character, except if they encounter the Lord Jesus on their journey.
Solomon tells us in Proverbs 19:27 that anybody who stops listening to instruction veers off the words of knowledge. And when one stops receiving words of knowledge, obviously, his life’s quality will begin to deteriorate, which, with time, becomes so bad. Many people who have ended up very low in this life started investing more in the flesh rather than knowing God. But a judgement has been passed on the flesh by Jesus Himself – that is, it profits nothing (see John 6:63).
Dear friend, if you want to learn how not to stray from God’s path, do the opposite of what Solomon wrote in today’s devotional anchor text – Proverbs 19:27. Keep listening to instruction. Keep listening to God. Study the Word. Don’t stop praying. The Lord will keep you in His path, and your life will move on from glory to glory.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, keep my life in check so as not to stray from hearing Your Word. Surround my life with people who’ll keep me on track in eternal life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
