[33] “Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” — 1 Corinthians 15:33 NIV
I’m not yet a biological parent at the time of this writing. But I’ve seen children grow up to live in a way their parents never raised them to be. I’ve seen children from good homes grow up to smoke, engage in stealing and even fornication. My question is, where do they learn this? From the people they surrounded their lives with.
God’s principle works regardless of times and seasons. 1 Corinthians states one of them. It says bad company corrupts good character. In other words, a wrong association will affect the good upbringing a person has received from home.
While it’s never recommended for any parent to do helicopter parenting (monitoring your child 24/7), God mandates them to teach them His ways (see Deuteronomy 4:9, Ephesians 6:3-4).
Whether you’re a parent reading this or not, keep this principle in your heart. Practise it. Start filtering the kind of people you’ve allowed in your circle. Distance yourself from evil people and insist on living to please God regardless of what people say against your godly lifestyle.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for showing me that bad company corrupts good character (1 Corinthians 15:33). I pray that my life will be purged of bad friendships. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
