Do What the Word of God Says

[24] “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: [25] and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.” – Matthew 7:24-25 (NKJV)

Every week, millions of believers around the globe gather to worship the living God. And even though these enormous statistics are evident, evil is still thriving in the world. The same people who gather in church are the same people who take bribes in offices, rob others of godly favour, and use dubious means to have their way around life. It’s not surprising that even though the gospel is being preached daily, many believers aren’t good ambassadors of Christ. They foster evil instead of good. Hmm!

Jesus said in Matthew 7:24-25 that anybody who hears His sayings and does them will be likened to a wise man who built his house on the rock. Though the rains descend, the floods come, and the winds blow and beat on that house (the one who hears and does the Word), it (he) won’t fall. Why? Because the house is on a rock.

Friend, what Jesus said meant two main things according to my revelation at the time of this writing.

1. It pays to do what the Word of God says. In other words, you’ll have rulership in life because of the solid foundation of God’s Word in your life.

2. Going through persecution is part and parcel of the walk of faith you’re on as a staunch believer.

I’m not quite old as I write this. But I’ve met several people who counsel me to use their ungodly ways they have used to get my way around things. And to their surprise, anytime I refuse to listen to them, they see me as odd. The Bible says in Psalm 1:1 (NKJV) that,

“Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;”

So, according to the scripture above, any believer who refuses to listen to the talk of sinful people is blessed. And that’s great news and encouragement for any believer facing persecution today.

See, many people don’t revere Jesus from their hearts. That is why they don’t do what He says, even though some go to church and listen to His Word each week. If you’ve taken your faith journey seriously, continue pressing on. Listen not to the talk of people who don’t revere the ways of God. However, most importantly, surround your life with like-minded believers who’ll help you in your faith journey.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to do what the Word of God says and not just listen to it. Make my life a beacon of Your shining light in this dark world. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
