Saying the Truth Will Attract Enemies

[16] “Have I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?” – Galatians 4:16 (NKJV)

In a generation where people are constantly looking for content to soothe their itchy ears, it is becoming harder for people to say the truth for fear that they’ll attract enemies. That has affected pastors, politicians, civil servants, and many people. It is even sad to say that many businessmen and women lie about their products just to lure consumers to buy them.

Paul is the one whom God led to start the church in Galatia during those days. They started well by embracing the gospel of grace, and their growth in the knowledge of God was constantly increasing. But a time came when apostle Paul left there and couldn’t return. So he decided to send them an epistle. But before doing that, he had a report about how some believers are turning away from the gospel to indulge in sinful acts. Paul knew that spitting out the truth about their behaviour could attract enemies, but he went on to do it.

As a preacher, one of the fears you must conquer if you want to do God’s work effectively is the fear of man. When you fear people, you’ll always be tempted to preach messages that please them. Meanwhile, God’s Word is both a tool to empower and to correct believers (see 2 Timothy 3:16). So correcting God’s congregants is also part of your duties.

Yes, not everyone will like you for what you do, even if you always do the right thing. Sticking to saying the truth will attract enemies from diverse areas – government and even families. So enough of the people-pleasing, and do what God tells you to do.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me overcome any fear that makes me edit Your message in a way that doesn’t please You. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
