All the grace you need to live in godly humility is in Christ, not your human strength or strategies. It’s God who works in you, both to will and do his good pleasure (see Philippians 2:13). Hence, it’s not about you but God in you helping you to live in submission to His ways by the direction of the Holy Spirit and the Word.
No matter how many things you’ve done unto God’s kingdom, don’t pride yourself in it. Give credit to grace for everything, casting all the cares before Him. That’s intentional godly humility, and He’ll reward you for that.
When you start to find your identity in what you’ve achieved instead of what God thinks about you, you begin becoming narcissistic. Recognise grace in all your accomplishments, not your human works.
1 Peter 5:6-7 (NKJV)
[6] Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, [7] casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
In Psalm 25:9, David says God guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. So to receive and submit to God’s guidance, you must possess humility.
Look around your life – your church, classmates or even neighbours. There’s at least one wise believer, yet despised, so people don’t listen to him. Don’t be fooled. Humble yourself, go to the person and learn the ways of God. You’ll be a tremendous blessing for doing this.
God knew you before bringing you into the world. So when He provides you leadership and says, “submit to Me,” it’s not because He wants to cage your life. No! It’s because He knows what is best for you, far beyond your knowledge.
No matter how many great things you’ve achieved on this earth, remember that God gave you the strength and anointing to do it. Be careful of boasting about yourself because Nebuchadnezzar tried it and ended up in the bush for seven years.
You don’t have to be fast to reach where God wants you to be. God is the director of your life. He determines the speed with which you ought to move, not yourself. If He tells you to be patient, control yourself and be patient.
Paul showed us how to carry the humble mindset of Christ in our relationships with one another using Philippians 2:5-7. He says we should not be title-conscious but servant-conscious, especially as leaders in Christ. That requires that, at certain times, you have to let go of some of your privileges in order to help others.
If you own a laptop, that machine doesn’t teach you what to do. Instead, you use it for what you want. In the same way, this God who owns us wants us to submit ourselves to Him. But why? It’s not because He wants to dominate our lives. Instead, He wants us to become empowered to fulfil our divine mandates accurately and vigorously.
God exalts those who humble themselves under His mighty hand according to His own timetable. Learn to trust God!
