[10] “Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” — John 4:10 (NKJV)
We all know that there are over eight billion people on the surface of this earth. Day in and day out, we see new faces whenever we step out. And even though evil is prevalent in this generation, it’s an error to meet anybody and talk as if the person is evil. The Bible says in Hebrews 13:2 (NKJV) that,
“Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.”
That means not every person walking on this earth is ordinary. An angel can come in a human form and tell you to give him something little just to test your discernment. And if you’re not discerning, you can talk badly at him, thinking he’s one of those beggars on the roadside.
One time, a Samaritan woman came to draw water at the well of Jacob, where Jesus was having His rest after a long day’s ministerial work. She thought Jesus was an ordinary Jew, so she didn’t get why Jesus was asking her for water. As the conversation ensued, she got to know that Jesus was (and is still) the Messiah the whole of Israel has been waiting for. And through that revelation, the whole of Samaria was saved.
Not everybody you see is a mere man. Servants of God who never forget their sense of divine identity and the spiritual power they carry still walk naturally on the streets every day. Some may not be popular, yet very powerful.
Don’t make the mistake the Samaritan woman did when she met Jesus. Despise not who you meet for the first time wherever you go. God can do wonders through the strangers you meet. However, be discerning, lest you entertain an evil companion in your life.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me discern the spiritual identity behind the new people I meet daily. Direct my steps according to your ways, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
