“But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.” — I John 2:5 NKJV
It’s one thing to receive God’s love and yet another to perfect that love in you. You receive God’s love primarily through salvation. However, you perfect God’s love in you by keeping His Word.
The word “keep” as used in 1 John 2:5 in Greek is “τηρέω,” which means to attend to something or someone carefully. So keeping God’s Word means attending to its instructions carefully. But the question is, how can you do that? Simply by meditating on it. In Joshua 1:8, God says,
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Joshua 1:8 NKJV emphasis added
So from the verse above, it’s clear that meditation on the word is foundational if you want to walk in obedience to what’s written in it.
God is love and wants every part of your life to express Christ. His Word is your life manual. Treasure it. Read. Study and meditate upon it. You’ll see that it’ll be easy for the Holy Spirit to remind you (give you rhēma) anytime you need the Word to choose what you have to do.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I want Your love to be perfected in me. Increase my appetite for Your unfailing Word, and help me to meditate on it every time. Amen!
