“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!” — Proverbs 6:6 NIV

Ants are one of those tiny animals despised by several people. But according to the Bible, they are very wise. They have no ruler, commander or overseer. But they store their provisions in summer and gather food for harvest (Proverbs 6:7-8). So that in rainy and snowy times when they can’t move out, there’ll be food for them.

Sometimes, we quote this scripture referring to only physical ants. But upon meditation, I realised it speaks deeper.

Some people are despised or regarded as nobodies among us. However, these people possess so much wisdom that they can help everyone, including foolish people, to discern wisdom because of their close and high influence.

Never despise a man because he doesn’t show off what he has. Many genuinely wise people don’t have a flamboyant lifestyle. They are modest, especially the Christians. And you’ll probably not know them well until you get close to them.

Look around your life – your church, classmates or even neighbours. There’s at least one wise believer, yet despised, so people don’t listen to him. Don’t be fooled. Humble yourself, go to the person and learn the ways of God. You’ll be a tremendous blessing for doing this. But remember, “Do not know any man in Christ according to the flesh” (2 Corinthians 5:16). Why? Because the flesh is deceptive and can make you despise God’s treasure in people. View people as Jesus sees them.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray, clear every scale off my eyes that make me view and judge situations by the dictates of the flesh. Open the eyes of my understanding to perceive whatever comes before me according to Your Spirit’s leadership. Amen!
