Despisers of the Anointing

[1] “Then He went out from there and came to His own country, and His disciples followed Him. [2] And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! [3] Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” So they were offended at Him.” – Mark 6:1-3 (NKJV)

Serving in the ministry for a while, I have come to understand what Jesus experienced when He went to Nazareth to preach the Word to them more practically. Many servants of God have people who are despisers of the anointing upon their lives right in their homes, which is very unfortunate. Today, many servants of God see other people they don’t even know in person benefit from their anointing rather than their hometown people and family members. What a tragedy! As I speak like this, ask yourself whether you are getting used to a servant of God or not. Because the more you get used to a servant of God, the less you benefit from the anointing on his life. You may ask, why am I saying this?

In Mark 6:1-3, Jesus taught people in the synagogue in Nazareth. But the people, instead of receiving graciously from Him, were somewhat astonished. They said, “Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! [3] Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” The people, having known Jesus’ childhood background and His siblings, never took His ministry seriously. Guess what happened to them? Jesus couldn’t do any mighty work there because of their offence upon looking at Him (see Mark 6:5).

Sometimes, it’s better to ignore studying the background of a servant of God, especially those you are close with, listen to, or probably work with. Knowing too much of their private formative lives can breed familiarity in your heart. And you’ll be the one to lose. Be careful in how you relate with God’s servants.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your grace and mercy in my life. To all Your ordained servants You have placed in my life for spiritual guidance, may I never grow familiar with any. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
