[16] “If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that you should pray about that.” – 1 John 5:16 (NIV)
It is vital to walk in holiness as a Christian, no matter where you find yourself in this world. But God knows several of His children, including you and me, have weaknesses. He knows that to err is human. That is why living in triumph over sin cannot be possible without the Spirit of holiness in and upon each believer’s life. Thankfully, there are scriptural remedies that help restore those who falter to walk in holiness. One of such remedy is prayer.
In 1 John 5:16, the Bible tells us that if you, as a believer, see your brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray about it so that God will give the person life. In other words, as long as that fellow still has physical life after he sinned, God can restore that fractured part of the person’s life for His glory, but by your prayer. So now, do you understand why the devil traps so many people in self-condemnation? They refuse to pray about that wrong thing they did or saw another person do. As you read this today, be determined not to let that be said of you.
Everybody needs help. You must be cautious not to judge others because you saw them do something terrible. If God loves the person and hasn’t given up on him, who are you to condemn him? God desires to see each of His children walk in victory in anything they are involved in, especially matters of purpose. But sin in a canker against this reality. Pray for God to purify you and others of any fleshy or spiritual filth carried over because of any wrongdoing done in times past.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your Spirit of holiness in my life. Help me to pray to restore those who falter to walk in holiness. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
