Don’t Deceive Yourself by Thinking too Highly of Yourself

[3] “For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.” – Galatians 6:3 (NKJV)

In my few years of life (at the time of this writing), I have seen people claiming to be who they are not. I have also seen great people speak to boastful people as if they were nobodies on the face of this Earth. But anytime I reminisce about these happenings, I ask myself, Where is humility in this generation?

According to Galatians 6:3, anyone who thinks of himself to be something when he only deceives himself, not others. That means that a boastful person can successfully sell a wrong personality image about himself to people, but at the end of the day, it will be his own deception. For instance, if you aren’t wealthy and you keep deceiving people about your wealth by showing them money that doesn’t belong to you, they’ll see you as rich and will probably start bringing you their money issues, which you may not be able to handle.

Dear friend, there is no need to portray a fake life to others. You don’t need to dress in expensive apparel, use costly things you don’t own, or buy things you don’t need to show off to people. People don’t really care about what you own. So don’t deceive yourself by thinking too highly of yourself. It’s of no need.

Just as Paul said in Philippians 4:12, he knew how to abase and abound; just live within your means as God has provided. Seasons change, and your life won’t remain like this forever. Hope in the Lord!

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to live in a way that pleases You every day, lest I get deceived into living a life that doesn’t please You. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
