[34] “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” [35] The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.” — Luke 1:34 - 35 NIV
How great was it for Mary to receive an instruction from the angel Gabriel that Jesus would come to the world through her? If it were you (I speak to females here), won’t you be happy? You will. Right? But Mary was also confused. She didn’t know how a baby could be conceived without sleeping with a man.
Instead of receiving the news and thinking about the “how” later, she probed further to understand God’s instruction by saying, “How will this be?…”. Then, the angel replied to her that “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.”
Nevertheless, this explanation looked strange to Mary. So he decided to give her another piece of evidence. And that’s what is written in Luke 1:36 NKJV:
[36] “Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month.”
Read that verse again. In order for Mary’s faith in God’s promise to get solidified, the angel provided a vivid example to her, concluding that,
[37] “For no word from God will ever fail.”
Luke 1:37 NIV
When God tells you something, and you know that it’s really God who spoke to you, ask Him for more explanations if you’re confused about how He’ll do it. If you believe He’ll do it wholeheartedly without any doubt, then don’t pray at all. Allow Him to do wonders in your life.
However, we live in a world where people like calculating happenings. That’s why disappointments are common to see and hear these days. And while it’s good to expect something good from loved ones, don’t be surprised when they do something wrong. Only the God in them will make them dependable.
The Lord will perfect everything that concerns your life. Trust Him.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for love and peace. When I get confused about how You’re going to do what You promised me, remind me to turn to You to receive comfort and explanation. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
