Run Your Race of Faith in Such a Way That You Get the Prize

[24] “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” – 1 Corinthians 9:24 (NIV)

Have you watched an athletics competition before, especially the marathons and the 5000m? How does it feel? Sometimes boring. Right? Do you know why? It’s because such distances are long, and it takes considerable time to finish the event. But my focus is on the runners who never give up until they have completed. They really do well.

The race of faith in Christ is not a hundred-meter sprint. It’s a marathon, and even that, there’s no fixed end for everyone. Each person’s end is in the mind of the Almighty, the appointed time a person will die. For some, God may call them into eternity at 25. Others also have lifespans of 80 and beyond. Knowing this irregularity, Paul cautioned that as a child of God, run your race of faith in such a way that you get the prize. The question is, which prize? It’s the crown of righteousness (see 2 Timothy 4:7-8).

Dear one, as long as you have life today, you have another opportunity to contribute to your database of good works in Christ. Don’t let the enemy deceive you that you don’t have to do more today. No! There are higher realms of impact than where God has taken you right now. It can only get better with you. So don’t relax. Press on. When you are tired, rest and continue working later. But don’t give up!

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to keep moving on in faith despite the setbacks I encounter. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
