“For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — II Timothy 4:6 - 7 NKJV
Life is actually a fight. In other words, you must decide on what you want and follow hard after it no matter the circumstances. That’s why “Give up” is not in the Bible, because before God, that phrase doesn’t exist.
It’s true God created you on purpose for a purpose. But looking at how this world lies in wickedness, and also with Satan as its god (1 John 5:19, 2 Corinthians 4:4), it means there’s no smooth path towards purpose fulfilment. It’s rough with distractions and obstacles against our faith.
Now Paul faced challenges. In the book of Acts, it was recorded how he got flogged and suffered severe persecutions for preaching the gospel in several places aside from Israel. Nevertheless, he kept pressing on.
By the time Paul was writing 2nd Timothy, he was already an old man. He had grown in faith and experience in ministry. That implies he knew all kinds of battles that come along with ministry. But he didn’t pride himself in any except the good fight of faith. What’s that?
I explain a faith fight as a fight whereby a believer in Christ consciously stands firm in his convictions rooted in the Word. For example, if God has told you that you’ll reach nations for Christ, and now you’re preaching to three people, holding firmly to what God has said becomes a strong pillar in your faith system that it doesn’t matter what you physically see, you’re strong in the Lord.
Some of you reading this right now are holding on to God’s promises even though you’ve not seen them. It’s a fight of faith. When you know where God is taking you, you don’t just sit back and do nothing. No! You pray about it. You make choices intentionally, and you do things that will lead you in God’s direction.
Fulfilling your divine mandate takes a lot of work. And for that reason, life is not a joke. God didn’t bring you to this Earth to be comfortable but to work purposefully. Maybe you don’t know your purpose, or you’re in a dilemma right now. I’ll urge you to seek God about it. And He’ll show you which way to take.
Don’t abort the dreams God gives you. He’s faithful to perform everything He has said. Fight the good fight of faith.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Oh God, thank you for giving me a life of relevance. In the name of Jesus, I receive grace to fight the good fight of faith. I choose to lay hold on what You have said about my life without wavering. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
